It seems to me that if one can register a domain and point it at whatever webspace one sets up somewhere else then buying cheap is the most sensible way to go - after all it's just register and point, right?
So, who do you use for such a service, why do you use them and, most importantly, what do they cost?
(I'm talking a) .com and b) . whatever-your-local-country-is (e.g. .co.uk) )
That last sentence had too many right brackets...... _________________ Phil the Bear

I use 1and1.co.uk,
They are definitely not the cheapest, but I guess it's just the ease of use that keeps me going back...
I don't have to go through 27 screens of upsells to complete my order....lol

I've had good experience with NameCheap and Enom (through ResellersPanel so you don't have to cough up a ton of cash in advance).
I pay US$5 for most TLDs.
For .au names I use NameScout. Definitely the cheapest I've found.

Stupid question, I know, but what happens if namecheap goes out of business. What happens to your domain name? How do you renew? Would another company pick up the ball or what? _________________ Behind the curve in Rock Hill |

Actually, domain name registrars come and go from time to time and there's no problem. They're simply registrars. They're not the registry.
Example: the (former) second-worst registrar in the world, Australia's TotalNIC, went out of business following a co-ordinated campaign (of which I was a key player, using my domain totalNICsucks.com) a few years ago. auDA.org.au, the AU domain space administrator, simply stepped in, deregistered totalNIC, contacted all registrants with names registered through totalNIC and advised them to find another registrar within 14 days.
(The worst registrar? No contest: Network Solutions (Verisign), who seem to hold the ICANN board captive in some sinister way, so that it rubber-stamps the most outrageous proposals by NetSol.)

Hi Philthebear
I'm based in Uk and I use www.cheap-domainregistration.com/ prices range from £1.30 for a .info to anything about £8/10 for a .com/ .co.uk
However I have seen prices for £630 for some domain names which were snapped up by others for resell
Oh and Price fluctuates due to US Dollars and UK GBP exchanges rates
The reason I use Cheap Domain Registration is that I can simply buy the domain and then go to the admin panel and set it to either redirect temporary or permanently to wherever I tell it too i.e. the free hosting company I use for my sites.
The others ones include Name Cheap and Go Daddy which seem to be quite popular and get recommended quite often - lots of people seem to use them so I guess it must be good, but I can't speak from personal experience though as I've not use them before. I tend to stick with Cheap Domain Registration
Best Regards |
